VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 19, 2024) – Howard University women's track & field team moved into first place after Day Two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships.
Overall, the Bison hold a slim lead over Norfolk State with one day remaining.
On the day, three Bison earned gold medals.
Junior
Jasmyn Hunter (Flossmoor, Ill.) finished first with 3,190 points in pentathlon, followed by teammate graduate
Minyarn Smalls (Cary, N.C.) with 3,164 points.
In the field, graduate
Nyagoa Bayak (Westbrook, Mass.) claimed gold in the high jump, leaping 1.77 meters.
Fifth-year Bison
Erin Hatcher (Silver Spring, Md.) took first place in the weight throw after tossing 18.32 meters. Sophomore
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) scored points for HU, placing fifth in the event (16.36 meters).
On the track, Hunter, graduate
Simone Watkins (Frisco, Texas), senior
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) and sophomore
Lauren Thompson (Frisco, Texas) made the 60-meter hurdles final.
Sophomores
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) and
Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) earned spots in the 400-meter dash final round, clocking in at 55.26 and 56.17, respectively.
The 2024 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships conclude Tuesday (Feb. 20). Fans can follow the live results and watch the championship events on ESPN+, starting at 12:30 p.m.
