WASHINGTON (February 19, 2024) – Redshirt freshman
Tyana Walker (Leawood, Kan.) scored a team-high 14 points and junior forward
Marissa Steel (Laurel, Md.) added a career-high 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Howard University women's basketball team to a 69-51 win over South Carolina State (SCSU) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game at Burr Gymnasium.
The contest was decided early when the Bison held the Bulldogs to one field goal in the first stanza, taking a commanding 26-2 lead.
Overall, 10 different players scored as Howard shot 54-percent from the field. SCSU (1-23, 0-9 MEAC) was able to generate some offense in the second stanza, outscoring the hosts, 17-12, to trail, 38-19, at the half.
From there, Howard (9-14, 6-3 MEAC) cleared its bench as 14 players saw action.
Fifth-year guard
Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) contributed 10 points.
Sophomore forward
Nile Miller (Haddonfield, N.J.) had her usual performance with seven points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Miller, a strong candidate for MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, now has corralled 29 rebounds in the past two games.
The Bulldogs got a game-high 15 points from Morgan Beacham but no other player reached double figures.
NEXT UP: Howard will look to extend its streak to two when it hosts Morgan State Saturday (Feb. 24) at 2 p.m., inside The Burr.
