WASHINGTON (February 16, 2024) – Howard University men's tennis team grabbed its first of the season, defeating crosstown rival UDC, 7-0, at the WTEF – East Capitol Campus in southeast D.C.
HU (1-3) opened the afternoon with a sweep in doubles play.
Senior
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and newcomer
Michael Major, Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) served as the squad's No. 1 doubles team, knocking off UDC's Antonio Durall and Mauricio Corty, 6-4.
Third-year Bison
Daniel Dunac (Washington) and rookie
Mitchell Yon (Queens, N.Y.) rolled to victory against the Firebirds' Juan Hernandez and Oskar Karos, 6-1.
In singles competition, Cadeau won a hard-fought three set contest versus UDC's Louka Queginer (6-3, 5-7, 6-3).
Junior
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) represented Bison Nation in the No. 1 spot where he topped UDC's Louis Mangeon in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
Major and fellow classmate
Kendrick Lash (Winston-Salem, N.C.), along with seniors
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) and
Gabe Knowles (Allentown, Pa.) also won their respective singles matches in straight sets.
On Feb. 25, HU goes to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) to face Temple.
