WASHINGTON (November 16, 2024) – Howard University women's swimming & diving team cruised past Mount St. Mary's, 165-97, inside Burr Gym Pool.
With the win, HU secured its first win of the season (1-2).
Overall, the Bison won 11 races, including a pair of relays.
Senior
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas), sophomores
Jasmine Morgan (Chicago) and
Chanice Posada (Houston) and newcomer
Seannia Norville-Smith (Nassau, Bahamas) opened the meet with a victory in the 400 Medley Relay, clocking in at 3:55.89.
Morgan, Norville-Smith and juniors
Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Ariz.) and
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) closed out the event with a win in the 400 Free Relay (3:33.73).
Individually, Nwaeze and Thompson led the way with a pair of wins each. The Maryland native won the 200 Free (1:54.65) and 100 Free (51.65) while the Bahamian product claimed gold in the 100 Breast (1:05.40) and 100 IM (59.88).
Norville-Smith, Posada and junior
Samyra Benoit (Santa Clarita, Calif.) swept the 50 Fly podium, earning first (26.48), second (26.48) and third (26.81), respectively.
Benoit and Norville-Smith also placed first (58.35) and second (58.58), respectively, in the 100 Fly.
Morgan and freshman
Gabrielle Vickles (El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago) competed in the 50 Free, securing gold (24.19) and silver (24.88), respectively.
Posada and second-year Bison
Myeisha Sharrieff (Bermuda) took part in the 100 Back race, finishing first (57.28) and second (59.07), respectively. The Bermuda native also took home gold in the 50 Back, producing a 27.38 time.
On Nov. 22-24, HU goes to Baltimore to compete in the annual GreyH2ounds Invitational, hosted by Loyola (Md.). Morning sessions start at 10 a.m., followed by the evening sessions at 6 p.m.
