Men’s Soccer Secures Tie at Stonehill

Skyhawks score twice late to force stalemate

EASTON, Mass. (October 6, 2024) – Howard University men's soccer team held a 3-1 advantage with less than 10 minutes remaining until a pair of late goals from Stonehill (SC) forced a stalemate in Sunday's Northeast Conference (NEC) showdown in Easton, Mass.

With the tie, HU moved to 1-5-3 (1-0-1 NEC) while the Skyhawks sit at 3-6-2 overall (0-1-1 NEC).

SC grabbed the upper hand early with a goal from Owen Burke at the seven-minute mark, 1-0.

Nearly seven minutes later, newcomer Angi Bacic (Lustenau, Austria) registered his second career goal and tied the matchup at halftime, thanks to an assist by All-NEC selection Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.).

After intermission, graduate forward Mason Christian (Fulton, Md.) gave HU its first lead of the match with an unassisted goal at the 65-minute mark, 2-1.

Almost eight minutes later, Baker registered his second assist of the contest, finding rookie Rayce Welborne (Lawrenceville, N.J.) for his first career goal; thus, giving the Bison a commanding 3-1 advantage until SC erased the two-score deficit to force a stalemate, 3-3.

On the afternoon, HU outshot the Skyhawks, 11-9, while taking more corner kicks, 5-2.

Sunday (Oct. 13), HU continues its four-match road swing in Loretta, Pa., against the Saint Francis Red Flash. Match time is slated for 2 p.m.
