WASHINGTON (October 10, 2024) – Howard University women's soccer extended its charge through the Northeast Conference (NEC) Thursday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout over Mercyhurst.
The victory marks their fourth straight win, pushing the team to 4-1 in conference play while the Lakers fall to 2-9-3 overall (1-2-2 NEC).
The Bison started their attack early, netting a goal in the first 15 seconds of the match. A chip to midfield from
Kyra Bolden (McLean, Va.) connected with newcomer
Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) to feed it to
Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.) – marking her first goal this season.
Garcia-Terrell made it a 2-0 lead, thanks to her PK (penalty kick) with 21:27 to go in the second half - her fourth goal of the season.
Zoe Moore (Lutz, Fla.) took Howard's 10
th corner of the day where
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.) was there to play clean-up, posting her second goal of the season for a 3-0 advantage.
Reigning NEC Goalkeeper of the Year
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) recorded two saves in her third shutout of the year.
Howard outshot the Lakers, 24-3, utilizing 10 corners to Mercyhurst's three.
The Bison are back in action Thursday, October 17, at 7 p.m., when they migrate to Staten Island, N.Y., to face the Seahawks of Wagner College.
