BROOKLYN, N.Y. (October 24, 2024) —Howard University women's soccer team picked up a huge road win Thursday afternoon, knocking off LIU, 2-0.
With the victory, HU improved to 7-4-5 overall (6-1-1 NEC) while moving in a two-way tie for first place in the conference standings.
At the 19-minute mark, redshirt junior defender
Rachel Suttle (Smyrna, Ga.) put Howard on the board, thanks to an assist from second-year Bison
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.), 1-0.
After holding a slim one-goal advantage throughout, junior forward
Jaileen De Freitas (Miramar, Fla.) gave HU an insurance goal at the 70-minute mark, 2-0.
Despite the Sharks (5-8-1, 4-3-1 NEC) taking 10 shots and four corner kicks, HU's backline and reigning NEC Goalkeeper of the Year
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) kept LIU off the board. The Atlanta native secured her sixth shutout of the season.
Offensively, Howard outshot LIU, 21-10.
Keely Thomas battled for LIU, racking up 10 saves in a losing effort.
On Oct. 27, Howard will be back home, hosting FDU at Greene Stadium for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
