WASHINGTON (October 27, 2024) - Howard University women's soccer highlighted Senior Day with a 3-2 win over FDU Sunday afternoon.
The win moved Howard to an 8-4-5 overall record while improving to 7-1-1 in conference play. The feat also lifts the Bison atop the Northeast Conference (NEC) standings. FDU fell to 6-5-6 (6-2-1).
A foul in the 17
th minute set the Knights up with PK (penalty kick) for a 1-0 lead. The Knights sent four more attacks before the close of the period, but the FDU's forces could not get by sophomore goalie
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) and the Bison defense again. Three shots in, sophomore
Mia Young (Sunrise, Fla.) connected a penalty kick of her own to even the score, 1-1.
Six minutes into the second half, the Knights broke out to a 2-1 advantage, but a quick-footed
Kyra Bolden (McLean, Va.) did not let the charge get far – leveling the scoreboard, 2-2.
With the clock winding down and the help of newcomer
Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.), sophomore
Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.) became the difference-maker, netting the game-winner with two minutes left in the match.
The Bison close out the regular season Thursday (Oct. 31) at 7 p.m., when they travel to Delaware State to shake the Hornets' nest.
