Men's Soccer Downs LIU for Second Conference Win

Bison drown Sharks, 4-1

WASHINGTON (October 20, 2024) - Howard University men's soccer team stampeded the odds, running away to a 4-1 victory over LIU on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium.
 
The win moves Howard (2-7-3; 2-1-1 NEC) up the conference standings to take LIU's (4-4-5; 1-1-2 NEC) place at fourth.
 
Grad transfer Romario Simpson (Toronto, Canada) opened the scoring in the 18th minute, marking his first goal as a Bison.
 
Howard kept the scoreless Sharks at bay throughout the first half while allowing only four shots - three on goal.
 
HU went straight to work after halftime, scoring less than 30 seconds into the period. Lead scorer Mason Christian (Fulton, Md.) notched his sixth goal of the season to put Howard up 2-0.
 
Howard continued to power through the half when nearly three minutes later team captain Bryson Baker (Elliott City, Md.) took a shot initially blocked by ​the Sharks but rookie Zach Simmons (Rockwell, Texas) followed up with a shot of his own, netting the ball for his second goal of the season while giving HU a 3-0 lead over the Sharks.
 
LIU joined the board in the 54th minute, threading a shot by the Bison in goal, 3-1.
 
Daniil Kaban (Kharkiv, Ukraine) broke away down the field before taking a quick shot to the center of the net, padding the cushion, 4-1
 
Howard held a slight edge over LIU in shots, shots on goal, as well as corners.
 
Next up, the Bison travel to Syracuse where they will face Le Moyne Sunday, October 27, at noon.
