BALTIMORE (January 29, 2024) – Coppin State (CSU) downed the Howard University women's basketball team in Baltimore, 63-58, outscoring the Bison after intermission, 37-27.
Senior

With less than four minutes left in the opening period, HU held an eight-point advantage after freshman guard

Coppin State cut the deficit to one, 27-26, moments before the halftime, but redshirt freshman
Tyana Walker (Leawood, Kan.) answered with a pair of jumpers to end the period, 31-26.
Howard was unable to find a rhythm offensively after halftime, shooting only 20-percent (3-of-15) in the third quarter. CSU took advantage of the Bison's shooting woes, outscoring HU in the frame, 17-10, and taking its first lead of the game after a layup from Angel Jones, 43-41.
Howard regained the upper hand, thanks to Walker's trey ball, 47-46, but short-lived after CSU's Faith Blackstone drilled a long ball from behind the arc with 8:01 remaining, 49-48.
HU tied the contests on multiple occasions down the stretch, but unable to get over the hump with Coppin State making several clutch free throws in the waning moments.
On the night, Walker finished with 13 points while fifth-year guard
Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) recorded 11 points, including 7-of-10 from the charity stripe, and a season-high four steals in the loss.
