WASHINGTON (January 28, 2024) – Howard University men's basketball team looks to end its brief two-game slide Monday (Jan. 29) when they return to Baltimore to face Coppin State. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m., inside PEC Arena.

LAST TIMEOUT
Saturday (Jan. 27), HU placed four players in double figures, but it could not offset the free throw shooting of Morgan State as the Bison fell, 85-79, to the Bears in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at the Hill Field House.
Junior guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.), the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with 20 points, 14 coming in the first half, seven rebounds and two steals in a losing cause.
Graduate forward
Seth Towns (Columbus, Ohio) came alive in the second half, scoring 14 of his team-high 21 points after intermission.
Junior guard
Marcus Dockery (Washington) contributed 15 points while sophomore forward
Dom Campbell (Scarborough, Maine) chipped in with 13 points. Warfield collected a career-high eight assists to go along with his eight points.

SERIES RECORD
Coppin State defeated the Bison, 80-70, last season (February 18, 2023) to end a five-game losing skid.
The two have split the last 10 meetings with the Eagles holding a 14-11 advantage since 2006.

The Bison (8-13, 2-3 MEAC) are led by Towns (15.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 44 total assists, 17 total steals, nine total blocked shots, 44 made three pointers & 83-percent from the free throw line), Harris (15.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, team-leading 20 total blocks & 57-percent shooting from the floor), Dockery (13.0 ppg, 41 total assists, 17 total steals & team-leading 53 made three pointers), graduate guard
Isiah Warfield (8.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg & 90-percent free throw) and Campbell (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg & 55-percent from the field).
COPPIN STATE
Coppin State (2-16, 1-3 MEAC) is coming off a 68-58 road loss at Norfolk State Saturday (Jan. 27).
The Eagles are led by redshirt senior forward Justin Winston (14.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg & 85-percent from the free throw line), junior guard Greg Scurlock (9.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg & 26 total steals), freshman guard Ryan Archey (7.3 ppg) and graduate forward Toto Fagbenle (5.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 21 total blocks & 49-percent shooting from the field).
MEAC NOTES
HOWARD
The Bison lead the MEAC in field goal percentage (46-percent), three-point shooting (36-percent) and three pointers made (7.8 per game).
Individually, Towns is making a strong bid for MEAC Player of the Year. He is second in three-point shooting (39-percent) and three pointers made per game (2.4), third in rebounding (6.6 per game), sixth in scoring (15.5 ppg), fourth in free throw shooting (83 percent) and eighth in assists.
Harris is also a strong candidate for both MEAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-4 junior is No. 1 in field goal percentage (57-percent), fifth in blocked shots, second in rebounding, fifth in scoring and ninth in free throw shooting (71-percent).
Dockery leads the MEAC in three pointers made (2.5 per game) and three-point shooting percentage (39-percent) and 12
th in scoring (13.0 ppg).
Sophomore forward
Shy Odom (Roxbury, Mass.) is 10
th in assists.
COPPIN STATE
The Eagles rank second in opponent three-point shooting defense (31-percent), third in opponents field goal defense (43-percent) and fourth in blocks and steals.
Individually, Winston is ninth in scoring and rebounding, third in free throw shooting (85-percent) and fifth in steals.
Spurlock sixth in steals and Fagbenle is second in blocked shots.
BISON NOTES
- Howard has had a challenging nonconference schedule with road games at Georgia Tech (ACC), James Madison (Sun Belt), Rutgers (Big Ten), Penn (Ivy League) and UC Santa Barbara (Big West). They have also hosted Cincinnati (Big 12) and Yale (Ivy League).
- The Bison have started 10 different starting lineups due to injuries.
- Seven Howard players have 10 or more steals.
- Harris has been named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week twice and Towns was named MEAC Player of the Week once this season.
- The trio of Towns, Harris and Dockery have combined to carry the Howard offense, averaging 42 points and 16 rebounds between them.
- The Bison bench has been tested this season with the rash of injuries.
- Odom, the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, has missed the last seven games (back injury) and his availability is questionable as is that of graduate guard Jelani Williams (wrist injury).
