BALTIMORE (January 27, 2024) - Howard University men's basketball team placed four players in double figures, but it could not offset the free throw shooting of Morgan State (MSU) as the Bison fell, 85-79, to the Bears in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at the Hill Field House.
Junior guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.), the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with 20 points, 14 coming in the first half, seven rebounds and two steals in a losing cause.
Howard trailed by as many as 14 in the first half but rallied to cut the deficit to a one-possession game, 44-42, at the half. From there, the Bison stayed in striking distance.
Graduate forward
Seth Towns (Columbus, Ohio) came alive in the second half, scoring 14 of his team-high 21 points after intermission.
The Bison got to within three on five different occasions in the second stanza, but each time MSU's Wynston Tabb and Rob Lawson would come up with an answer.
With 2:56 remaining, graduate guard
Isiah Warfield (Monaca, Pa.) converted on two free throws to get Howard within three, 73-70, but Tabb, who was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the second half, nailed two three pointers and knocked down two free throws to keep the Bison at bay and secure the win.
Junior guard
Marcus Dockery (Washington) contributed 15 points while sophomore forward
Dom Campbell (Scarborough, Maine) chipped in with 13 points. Warfield collected a career-high eight assists to go along with his eight points.
For the game, Howard missed 12 free throws for a season low 65-percent. On the season, the Bison came into the game shooting 72-percent.
Conversely, the Bears were able to convert on 17-of-22 from the charity stripe, including 15-of-20 in the second half.
The Bison, who are missing several key players, lost the scoring battle off the bench, 16-2.
Morgan State (6-14, 2-2 MEAC) got a game-high 24 points from Will Thomas, followed by Tabb (20 points) and Lawson (16 points).
