PHILADELPHIA (January 21, 2024) – Howard University women's tennis team continued its road swing with a 7-0 setback to Penn at the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Center in Philadelphia.
With the loss, HU dropped to 0-2 on the young season while the Quakers remained perfect (3-0).
In doubles competition, junior
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and rookie
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) served as the club's No. 1 doubles team where they lost to Penn's Eileen Wang and Maya Urata, 6-2.
Penn would take a 1-0 match advantage after winning the other two contests.
Second-year Bison
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) represented HU in the No. 1 spot but fell to the Quakers' Gavriella Smith in straight sets (1-6, 1-6).
Penn won the other five singles matches in straight sets as well.
On Jan. 27, Howard wraps up its three-match road trip in Harrisburg, Va., against James Madison. Match time is slated for noon.
