EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (January 20, 2024) – Howard University women's tennis team fell in its season opener at Rutgers, 7-0.
In doubles competition, Rutgers (1-1) took the early match lead after winning a pair of matches.
All-MEAC selection junior
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) served as the club's No. 1 singles player, falling in straight sets to Jackeline Lopez (2-6, 5-7).
Fellow classmate
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) forced a third set, but fell to Rutgers' Naomi Karki (2-6, 6-2, 0-6).
Rookie
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed set one, 6-3, but the Scarlett Knights' Chloe Brown rallied to win the final two sets (6-2, 6-4).
Sunday (Jan. 21), HU travels to Philadelphia to take on Penn. Match time is slated for 10:30 a.m.
