Dunbar Earns MEAC Weekly Award

DMV native wins MEAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. (January 18, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its men's and women's track & field weekly awards where Howard University senior hurdler Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) earned the league's Women's Track Athlete of the Week. The announcement came Wednesday evening.
 
At the Rod McCravy Invitational (Jan. 12-13), Dunbar finished eighth overall in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.41. For her efforts, she ranks third in the Mid-Atlantic region and 48th in the country.
 
Rookie hurdler Otto Laing (Freeport, Bahamas) received honorable mention after recording a 7.89 time in the short hurdles.
 
Norfolk State graduate student Kai Cole was named MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week. Fellow Spartan senior Isaac Haywood was earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week while North Carolina Central sophomore Tia Lucas took home Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
 
On Jan. 20, HU travels to nearby Landover, Md., for the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic, hosted by Catholic.
