TEANECK, N.J. (September 24, 2023) – Howard University men's soccer team went toe-to-toe with unanimous Northeast Conference Preseason Favorite Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU), but the Knights outlasted HU, 4-2, in Teaneck, N.J.
Despite outshooting the Knights, 15-13, and producing four more corner kicks, 8-4, FDU took advantage of its opportunities.
At the 22-minute mark, Tony Gomez put FDU on the board first, 1-0.
A minute later, graduate midfielder
Roy Henderson (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored on an unassisted goal and tied the contest, 1-1.
From that point on, FDU's Jayd Hamdaoua took control of the match with a pair goals (30', 44') before intermission, 3-1.
After halftime, All-NEC selection
Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.) manufactured his first goal of the season and cut the deficit to one, 3-2.
At the 57-minute mark, Hamdaoua delivered a hat trick with his third goal of match to knock off the Bison, 4-2.
On Sept. 27, Howard's road swing continues with a nonconference matchup at Big Ten opponent Penn State. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m., on Big Ten +.
