Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short at North Carolina State

Bison battle, but fall short

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 12, 2023) – Howard University men's soccer team came up short on the road at North Carolina State (NC State), falling to the Wolfpack, 3-1, at Dail Soccer Stadium.

At the 13-minute mark, Yuta Toya found Junior Nare and put the Wolfpack ahead, 1-0.

Nearly 11 minutes later, Nare returned the favor with an assist to Toya, 2-0.

With halftime looming, graduate Roy Henderson (Fredericksburg, Va.) connected with junior Marcus Lewis (Toronto, Canada) and sliced the deficit in half before the break, 2-1.

North Carolina State kept the pressure on after intermission, but HU withstood the Wolfpacks' second half charge.

With time dwindling, NC State added an insurance goal at the 88-minute mark, thanks to a penalty kick goal by Luke Hille, 3-1.

Senior goalkeeper Benjamin Hoesli (Bern, Switzerland) played all 90 minutes while recording three saves in the loss.

On Sept. 19, HU travels crosstown to face rival George Washington. Match time is set for 3 p.m., live on ESPN+.
