WASHINGTON (September 10, 2023) – Howard volleyball (3-6) suffered a setback, falling 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-15) to the Maryland Terps (7-2) from the Big Ten conference. 
 
Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Setter of the Year Kayla Diaz (Rockland, N.Y.) opened the afternoon matchup with a kill. The New York native then set standout Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) up to knock down two more to build morale and the lead.
 
The Bison kept a slight edge over the Terps until a five-point crusade gave Maryland an 11-9 advantage. The Terps continued to inch ahead with the Bison on their heels before widening the gap, 20-14. Three consecutive points would go on the give the visitors their first win of the day.
 
Keeping the momentum going, Maryland (UMD) found themselves at an 8-4 lead off six hits before the scoreboard ignited for the Bison, gaining the lead with five uninterrupted points and forcing UMD into a timeout, 11-9. HU kept it close, but the Terps regained momentum and took a commanding 2-0 match lead.
 
The court leveled three times within the first five points before a two-point lead, 8-6. The scoreboard would balance out three more times before the Terps ran away on a five-point crusade to close the set, 25-15, and match.
 
The Bison are back in action Saturday, September 16, as they kick off their business trip in Atlanta with a matchup against Georgia Tech. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
