NEW ORLEANS (June 15, 2023) – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) uncovered its Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season where Howard University Director of Track & Field
David Oliver took home Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year. The announcement came Thursday afternoon.
Only USTFCCCA member schools are eligible for awards and member coaches voted on these honors after the conclusion of the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas (June 7-10).
Oliver wrapped up his sixth season at the helm, leading the women's program to back-to-back Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) titles with eight victories. On the final day, he was named MEAC Most Outstanding Coach after tallying a meet-record 241.5 points.
At the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Round, the Bison had seven entries in Jacksonville with three punching their tickets to Austin for the Outdoor Championships.
Monday (June 12),
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) and junior
Darci Khan (Stockbridge, Ga.) earned All-American Second Team honors while the 4x400 relay squad of Wright
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.),
Cathrina Morris (Auburndale, Fla.) and
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) received Honorable Mention.
Coach Oliver and the Bison wrapped up its historic season, winning the MEAC Triple Crown in cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field for the first time in school history.
HU looks to defend all three crowns for the upcoming 2023-24 campaign.
