BESSEMER, Ala. (May 8, 2023) – Howard University men's golf team holds a 10-stroke lead after round one of the PGA Works Collegiate Championships (PWCC), held at Shoal Creek Club (par-72, 7,025 yards) in Birmingham, Ala.
Collectively, the Bison shot seven-under par (281) with 19 birdies and three eagles on the afternoon.
Senior
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) and junior
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) are tied for second in the player standings after posting a three-under par (69) in 18 holes of play.
Two-time PWCC Champion senior
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) sits tied for fifth overall, recording one-under par (71) with four birdies and an eagle on hole 17.
Junior
Curtis Merritt (Wareham, Mass.) rounded out the Bison, tying for eighth with an even-par (72) performance.
Third-year Bison
Joshua Siplin shot seven-over par (79) and recorded HU's one of three eagles on hole three.
North Carolina A&T State is second behind the Bison (291, +3), followed by Alabama A&M in third place (298, +10).
Chicago State's Kieran Hogarth sits atop the player leaderboard at five-under par (67).
The action continues Tuesday (May 9) with the second round, beginning at 9 a.m.
