NORFOLK, Va. (May 9, 2023) – Howard University women's track & field team is tied for second overall after Day One of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships, producing 20.5 points.
Sophomore
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) and senior
Breanna McDonald (Bethesda, Md.) wrapped up the night, earning silver (40:09.09) and bronze (40:49.40), respectively, in the 10K run and combining for 14 points.
Rookie
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) took part in the discus where she scored four points with a fifth-place finish (38.97 meters).
Fellow classmate
Leah Williams-White (Denver) represented HU in the high jump, leaping 1.58 meters (5'2.25") and tying for sixth overall (2.5 points).
On the track, HU dominated with several Bison reaching Championship Thursday.
In the 200-meter dash, five Bison made the final round: senior
De'ja Dade (DeSoto, Texas); junior
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.); sophomores
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and
Lamaria Washington (Miami) and freshman
Kiya Lawson (Montclair, N.J.).
HU also put on an impressive performance in the long hurdles (400-meter) with four Bison advancing on AQ times: graduate
Cathrina Morris (Auburndale, Fla.); seniors
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) and
Monika Williams (Denver) and freshman
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.).
Morgan State grabbed the early lead on Day One, recording 32 points. Norfolk State is tied with the Bison for second place.
Wednesday's (May 10) action gets underway at 9 a.m., with the conclusion of the women's heptathlon. Further action starts at 11:30 a.m., with the women's long jump and women's shot put.
