NORFOLK, Va. (May 10, 2023) – Howard University men's track & field team moved up two slots after Day Two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships, scoring 61.5 points in eight events.
Sophomores
Eric Brown, Jr. (Raleigh, N.C.) and
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) led the Bison with a pair of victories.
Brown competed in the decathlon where he tallied 5,903 points and recorded 10 points for HU.
Wray represented Howard in the long jump, winning with a mark of 7.16 meters (23'6") and edging out teammate
Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.), who finished runner-up (7.15 meters). Collectively, they scored 18 points for the Bison.
Seniors
Ezra Monteiro (Newport, R.I.) and
Nnamdi Olebara (Bowie, Md.) took part in the hammer where they finished second (51.19 meters) and seventh (43.40 meters), respectively, and combined for 10 points.
Olebara, along with fellow classmate
Christopher Bratcher (Richmond, Va.), placed in the shot put. Both Bison combined for four points after finishing eighth (13.74 meters) and sixth (15.37 meters), respectively.
On the track, senior
Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.) earned silver in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:34.98) while producing eight points.
Four Bison reached Championship Thursday in the 110-meter hurdles, led by graduate
Dylan Beard (Baltimore) setting a new meet mark during the prelims (13.43). The other Bison joining Beard in the final round include
Jermanie Byrd (Miami Gardens, Fla.),
Kameron Davis (Miami) and
Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.).
Beard also made the 100-meter dash final, alongside senior
Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.). Both Bison ran automatic qualifying times of 10.44 and 10.29, respectively.
Other notable performances include sophomore
Kaleb Berry (Duncanville, Texas) earning a spot in the 800-meter dash final with a 1:53.90 time and rookie
Dylan Gaines (Houston) making the 400-meter dash final with a 47.86 mark.
Reigning MEAC Champions Norfolk State holds a slight edge over the Bison with 67.5 points, heading into the last day.
Thursday's (May 11) action will get underway at 10 a.m. with the men's triple jump. Running events start at 1 p.m. and the entire day will be streamed live on ESPN+.
