CARY, N.C. (April 27, 2023) – No. 4 Howard University women's tennis team advanced to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Semifinal round after defeating No. 5 Morgan State (MSU), 4-1.
With the victory, HU (8-10) moves on to face top-seeded South Carolina State Friday (April 28) at 9 a.m. Friday's showdown against the Lady Bulldogs will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Senior
Emnet Simunyola (Lorton, Va.) and sophomores
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) won their respective singles matches in straight sets.
Second-year Bison
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) clinched the match-winning point for HU, topping MSU's Lauryn Hall in a hard-fought three-set contest (6-7, 6-1, 7-6).
Rookie
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) battled, but dropped a tough, three-set match to the Lady Bears' Hannah Smith (6-3, 4-6, 5-7).
Despite leading 1-0 in her match, senior
Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) saw her contest ruled unfinished after Pegram clinched the deciding point.
Morgan State ends its 2023 campaign with an 8-12 mark (3-3 MEAC).
