Women’s Golf Takes Third at the NEC Championships

A trio of Bison named to the All-Tournament Team

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 25, 2023) – Howard University women's golf team took third overall at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships after shooting a tournament-best 291 (+3) in the final round. All three days was held at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
 
Individually, three Bison finished in the top 10 and named to the NEC All-Tournament Team.
 
Sophomore Kendall Jackson (Pearland, Texas) and rookie Morgan Horrell (Dallas) led the way for HU. Jackson had her best round of the tournament, posting a 70 (-2) in the last round, while the Dallas native recorded 1-over par (73) in round three. Together, the Bison duo shot 226 (+10) in 54 holes of action and tied for fourth in the player leaderboard.
 
Graduate Kyra Cox (South Salem, N.Y.) made her way into the top 10 after registering 230 (+14) in three days, which tied her for ninth place.
 
Second-year Bison Jada Richardson (Suwanee, Ga.) tied for 13th in the standings, producing a 232 (+16) in three rounds.
 
Newcomer Marley Franklin (Los Angeles) had a hot start on the day, shooting 3-under par (33), including four consecutive birdies to close out the front nine. The Los Angeles native cooled off in the back nine but managed to finish even par (72) on the afternoon.
 
Sacred Heart (SHU) led from start-to-finish, winning its second consecutive NEC crown with a 31-over par (895) performance in three days. Delaware State (DSU) finished runner-up, 10 strokes behind the Pioneers (905, +41).
 
SHU's Chantel El Chaib held off teammate Kailee Welch, winning the individual title by one stroke (215, -1). Welch came in second (216, E), followed by DSU's Anna Ferreyra-Heit (217, +1).
 
The Bison's spring season concludes at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championships in Birmingham, Ala. (May 8-10).
