WASHINGTON (April 16, 2023) – Howard University women's tennis team closed out its home slate with a 5-0 victory over Coppin State (CSU) on Senior Day.
 
HU opened the afternoon with a clean sweep in doubles play, led by senior Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) and sophomore Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) serving as the club's top tandem. The Bison duo defeated CSU's Hana El Sherif and Emperess Johnson, 6-2.
 
In singles competition, second-year Bison Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) knocked off El Sherif in straight sets (7-5, 6-1).
 
Rookie Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) and senior Emnet Simunyola (Lorton, Va.) also got in the win column with two-set victories.
 
Before Sunday's showdown, Ifederu, Simunyola and Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas) were recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program.
 
Thursday (April 20), HU (6-10, 3-2 MEAC) returns to Baltimore to face Morgan State in the regular season finale. Match time slated for 1 p.m.
