ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 12, 2023) – Howard University sophomore
Daniel Dunac (Washington) earned a hard, fought singles victory on the road, but the men's tennis team came up short against Navy, 6-1.
Dunac entered Wednesday's match serving as the club's No. 3 singles player where he knocked off Navy's Aniketh Ayinala in straight sets (7-5, 7-5). The D.C. native secured his third singles win of the season.
Junior
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) won game one against the Mids' Christian Pumpelly, 6-4, but was unable to keep the momentum going as he dropped sets two and three (0-6, 8-10).
Navy won three singles contests in straight set and claimed another victory by default.
In doubles competition, the Mids won all three matches.
Junior
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and sophomore
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) represented HU as the squad's top doubles team, dropping a tough bout to Pumpelly and Gavin Segraves, 7-6 [8-6].
On April 15, both clubs are in action against league rival Coppin State on Senior Day. Match time is slated for noon at Banneker Recreation Center.
