FARMVILLE, Va. (April 10, 2023) – Howard University women's tennis team fell short in its final nonconference match on the season at Longwood (LU), 4-3.
In doubles competition, sophomores
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) defeated LU's Karina Rizvanova and Nina Hederich, 6-2.
Despite their efforts, Longwood grabbed the match lead after taking two-out-of-three doubles contests with one victory by default.
In singles play, four matches reached three sets.
Butcher and fellow classmate
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) won their respective matches in three sets while senior
Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) clinched a victory over Zoe Barton in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).
Grayson and rookie
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) battled but dropped their respective matches in three sets.
On April 15, both clubs are in action against league rival Coppin State on Senior Day. Match time is slated for noon at Banneker Recreation Center.
