SAN FRANCISCO (April 1, 2023) – Howard University senior
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) led the men's golf team in the final round at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford University.
After shooting 1-over par (71) in the front nine, the Virginia native closed out strong with three birdies on the back nine. Overall, Whiten placed tied for 24
th in the player standings.
Junior
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) opened the day with three birdies in the first nine holes, going into the final nine holes 2-under par (68). The Illinois product managed to get another birdie on the 13
th hole, but unable to keep the momentum going. He finished 1-over (71) on Day Three.
Overall, HU shot 10-over par (290) in round three and finished 25
th in the team standings after posting 871 (+31) in a three-day span.
No. 13 Oklahoma rallied to win the 2023 Goodwin, shooting six-under (274) on the afternoon and 18-under (822) all three days. No. 13 Georgia Tech finished runner up, six strokes behind the Sooners (828, -12).
Oklahoma's Ben Lorenz won the individual medal, recording 9-under (201) and shooting two strokes better than the Yellow Jackets' Christo Lamprecht (203, -7).
On April 8-9, the Bison continue its slate in Princeton, N.J., for the Princeton Invitational, hosted by the Tigers.
