BOSTON (March 5, 2023) – After winning its second consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championship, the Howard University women's track & field team closed out the season with another dominant performance in Boston, winning the 2023 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Title for the first-time in program history.
Overall, the Bison scored 92 points with five first-place finishes, nearly 30 more points than second-place James Madison (63).
Senior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.), junior
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) and freshmen
Kiya Lawson (Montclair, N.J.) and
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) capped off the weekend with a victory in the 4x400 relay, clocking in at 3:36.03.
Individually, Wright claimed the 400-meter dash title (52.16) and Dunbar placed first in the 200-meter dash (23.57). Dunbar also competed in the 60-meter hurdles where she finished runner-up (8.42) to teammate junior
Darci Khan (Stockbridge, Ga.) at 8.22.
Khan, along with sophomores
Lamaria Washington (Miami) and
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.), took part in the 60-meter dash final, earning first (7.47), third (7.52) and sixth (7.66), respectively.
In the field, graduate thrower
Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) earned second overall in the weight throw, tossing over 64 feet (19.57 meters).
Rookie
Jazmyn Wajd (Tampa, Fla.) placed third in the triple jump, leaping over 40 feet (12.36 meters).
HU focuses its attention to the outdoor season, set to start in Charlotte, N.C., at the 49er Classic (March 16-18).
