SAN FRANCISCO (March 30, 2023) – Howard University senior golfer
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) led the men's golf team in the first round of The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford University. Day one took place at the prestigious TPC Harding Park (70-par, 6939 yards).
Odom wrapped up day one shooting 1-over par (71), including back-to-back birdies on holes three and four.
Fellow classmate senior
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) and junior
Joshua Siplin (Orlando, Fla.) each shot even-par after the first nine holes but were unable to sustain in the back nine. Currently, Whiten and Siplin sit 3-over (73) and 5-over (75), respectively.
Overall, the Bison shot 15-over (295) after round one.
No. 8 Stanford leads the field at 7-under (273), two strokes better than No. 13 Oklahoma (5-under, 275).
Stanford's Barclay Brown and Washington's Bo Peng are tied at the top of the player leaderboard, recording 4-under (66).
HU resumes play Friday (March 31), starting at 3 p.m. (ET) / noon (PT).
