CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 18, 2023) – Howard University women's track & field team continued its momentum in the outdoor season opener at the 49er Classic in Charlotte.
Overall, the Bison produced four first-place finishes.
In the 4x100 relay, junior
Darci Khan (Stockbridge, Ga.), sophomores
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and
Lamaria Washington (Miami) and newcomer
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) won the race with a 45.52 mark.
Individually, Woodruff earned gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:01.34 time while fellow classmate
Kiya Lawson (Montclair, N.J.) claimed first in the 400-meter dash (56.08). Both Bison competed in the 200-meter dash where Lawson placed second (24.02) and Woodruff finished third (24.46).
Khan and Wright took part in the 100-meter hurdles, taking second (13.53) and third overall (13.95), respectively. Khan and Washington tied for third in the 100-meter dash (11.74).
On March 23-25, Howard travels to Raleigh, N.C., for the annual Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University.
In the field events, senior thrower
Erin Hatcher (Burtonsville, Md.) won the hammer after tossing 52.39 meters.
Senior
Ja'Tae Joyner (Bowie, Md.) competed in the triple jump, leaping nearly 39 feet (11.82 meters) and taking third overall.
Rookie
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) returned to the Tar Heel state where she placed third in the long jump (5.64 meters).
On March 23-25, Howard travels to Raleigh, N.C., for the annual Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University.
