TOWSON, Md. (March 26, 2023) – Howard University women's tennis team secured its first road win of the season, knocking off Towson (TU), 6-1.
 
Sophomore 
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) served as the club's No. 1 singles player for the first time in her collegiate career, defeating the Tigers' Sarah Pospichill in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).
 
Fellow classmates 
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.), reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year, and 
Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) also won their respective singles matches in two sets while senior 
Emnet Simunyola (Lorton, Va.) won by forfeit.
 
Senior 
Alexandra Blackwell (Austin, Texas) battled Towson's Sania Suchinsky in a tough, three-set contest where she just came out victorious (5-6, 6-4, 1-6).
 
In doubles play, Pegram and newcomer 
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) represented HU as the team's top pair where they took down TU's Lea Kosanovic and Olivia Rothfeld, 6-2.
 
Butcher and Grayson also won their doubles match, 6-1, and gave the Bison an early 1-0 match lead going into singles competition.
 
HU continues its road swing next weekend, returning to Baltimore to face Loyola (Md.) Saturday (April 1). Match time is slated for noon. The next day (April 2), Howard goes to Dover, Del., to meet Delaware State in a MEAC showdown. First-serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
