CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 18, 2023) – Howard University men's track & field squad opened the outdoor season strong at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C.
Overall, the Bison produced three first-place finishes.
Graduate
Dylan Beard (Baltimore) and seniors
Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.),
Goba Dan-Princewill (Houston) and
Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) won the 4x100 relay, clocking in at 40.46.
Individually, Beard took home gold in the 110-meter hurdles after running a nation-best 13.68. Junior
Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) and senior
Jermanie Byrd (Miami Gardens, Fla.) also competed in the race, placing second (13.99) and third (14.03), respectively.
Perry earned third overall in the 200-meter dash, registering at 21.43. Rookie
Dylan Gaines (Houston) won the event with a 21.31 mark.
Senior
Kameron Davis (Miami) finished runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles, recording a 53.54 time.
In the field events, senior thrower
Ezra Monteiro (Newport, R.I.) claimed fourth place in the hammer, tossing nearly 162 feet (49.27 meters).
On March 23-25, Howard travels to Raleigh, N.C., for the annual Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University.
