CARY, N.C. (March 18, 2023) – Howard University sophomore
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) earned a singles victory Saturday afternoon, but the squad overall fell to North Carolina Central (NCCU), 6-1, in the annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round Up at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Dawson served as the club's No. 2 singles player, defeating NCCU's Oliver Saarinen in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).
Fellow classmate
Daniel Dunac (Washington) competed in the No. 3 spot where he dropped a tough, three-set bout to North Carolina Central's Kareem Abdul Hakim (4-6, 6-3, 8-10).
NCCU won the other four singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles competition, the Eagles won a pair of contests over HU.
With the setback, Howard dropped to 3-7 (1-2 MEAC) while NCCU improved to 4-12 (2-1 MEAC).
Friday (March 24), HU returns to The District to face Saint Joseph's. Match time is set for 2 p.m., at Banneker Recreation Center.
