WASHINGTON (February 26, 2023) – Howard University women's lacrosse team returned home where they fell to Richmond (UR), 20-3.
With the loss, HU dropped to 0-4 while the Spiders remain unbeaten (4-0).
Sophomore
Kimora Williams (Marlton, N.J.) and freshman standout
Berkeley Clayborne (Highland Park, Ill.) led the Bison attack with two points apiece.
Richmond scored moments after the first whistle, but the Bison responded quickly with a goal from senior
Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrollton, Md.) to tie the match, 1-1.
UR answered with a 6-0 run to take a commanding 7-1 lead, but junior
Kayla Rose stopped slowed down the Spiders' momentum with another goal in the first frame, 7-2.
Richmond closed the period with another goal and took an 8-2 advantage into the second quarter. From that point on, the Spiders went into another gear.
UR scored nine unanswered goals and put the match out of reach.
With under two minutes remaining the third, Clayborne found the back of the cage to close HU's scoring.
Richmond finished with three goals in the fourth period.
Tierney Arden and Frank Lindsey had three goals each in the victory for Richmond.
On March 7, HU begins its Spring Break West Coast trip in Davis, Calif. To face UC Davis. Match time is scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (PT).
