Women’s Tennis Drops Tough Bout to Colonials

Bison come up short against rival George Washington

WASHINGTON (February 25, 2023) – Howard University women's tennis team dropped a tough bout to crosstown rival George Washington (GW), 4-3, at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's (WTEF) East Capitol Campus in southeast D.C.

With the loss, HU saw its two-match win streak come to a halt.

In doubles play, sophomore Nadia Pegram (Naples, Fla.) and Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) served as the club's top doubles team where they knocked off GW's Stella Wiesemann and Gabriela Giraldo, 6-4.

Despite the win, George Washington was able to take a 1-0 match lead after taking the other two doubles matches.

In singles competition, Stibbins and Pegram won their respective matches in straight sets.

After dropping game one, 3-6, second-year Bison Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) rebounded with victories in games two and three (6-4, 6-3).

Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year sophomore Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) fell in a tough, three-set match to Wieseman, GW's No. 1 singles player (6-3, 3-6, 5-7).

HU has a quick turnaround, traveling to nearby Annapolis, Md., to face Navy. Match time is slated for 10 a.m.
