WASHINGTON (February 24, 2023) – Howard University women's lacrosse team unable to recover from an early first quarter deficit, falling to crosstown foe American (AU), 15-2, at the Jacobs Complex.
AU (2-1) tallied seven goals in the first frame and never looked back.
After trailing 4-0 to open the contest, DMV native
Heidi Chicas (Hyattsville, Md.) found junior
Kayla Rose (Uniondale, N.Y.) and put HU on the board, 4-1.
From that point, the Eagles scored 10 unanswered goals and took a commanding 14-1 advantage late in the fourth quarter.
With four minutes remaining, Rose recorded her second goal of the match.
Seniors
Madison Joines (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Quai Skeete-Ridley (New Carrollton, Md.) each produced two draw controls in a losing effort.
Maddy Spratt registered four points (three goals and an assist) for the Eagles.
On Feb. 26, HU heads back home to face the University of Richmond. The match is set for 1 p.m. ET.
