GENEVA, Ohio (February 22, 2023) – Howard University women's swimming and diving team sits in second place after Day Two of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships.
In two days, the Bison have racked up 178 points. Central Connecticut State leads the pack with 223.5 points.
Junior
Michaela Spears (Chicago) led the way, becoming the first Bison to win gold at the NEC Championships. The Chicago native produced a 2:03.31 time in the 200 IM, which is a new school record.
Second-year Bison
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) also competed in the event, finishing third overall (2:04.53).

Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.) and newcomer
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) took part in the 200 Medley Relay, placing second with a new school benchmark of 1:43.94).
Individually, Nwaeze earned sixth place in the 500 Free, registering a 5:03.26 mark (school record).

Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.), competed in the 50 Free where they placed sixth (23.74) and fourth (23.64), respectively.
On the board, senior
Teyana Johnson (San Antonio) took seventh overall in the 3-meter dive, scoring 216.5 points.
The action continues Thursday (Feb. 23), beginning with the prelims at 10 a.m., followed by the final round at 6 p.m.
