NORFOLK, Va. (February 21, 2023) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its men's basketball weekly honors where Howard University freshman standout
Shy Odom (Roxbury, Mass.) racked up his eighth MEAC Rookie of the Week award. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
Odom averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two games against Coppin State (Feb. 18) and Morgan State (Feb. 20). In Saturday's win over the Eagles, he filled the stat sheet with seven points, seven boards, three blocks and a pair of assists. Two nights later, the Massachusetts native produced his first career double-double (22 points & 10 rebounds) at Morgan State.
Odom is averaging 10.4 points and 4.2 rebounds this season, including a dozen double-figure scoring performances.
Sophomore guard
Elijah Hawkins (Washington) received honorable mention after falling one assist shy of a double-double against the Eagles, going for 20 points and nine dimes. Monday, he registered 16 points against the Bears.
Coppin State redshirt senior guard Sam Sessoms was named MEAC Player of the Week while North Carolina Central senior guard Eric Boone took home the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
The Bison will travel to North Carolina Central Saturday (Feb. 25) to face off for the second time this season. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m., inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
