WASHINGTON (February 19, 2023) – Howard University men's tennis team got back in the win column after topping Mount St. Mary's, 5-2, at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus.
With the victory, HU improved to 2-4 overall while snapping a five-match skid against The Mount, dating back to 2016.
Howard grabbed the upper hand after winning two-out-of-three in doubles play.
Junior
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and second-year Bison
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) served as the club's top doubles team where they defeated The Mount's Elliot Stevens and Giovanni Abriola, 6-4.
Juniors
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) and
Pierce Westbrook (New Orleans) picked up the other doubles win for the Bison, knocking off Mount St. Mary's' Ryan Isgett and Luke Papayoanou, 6-2.
Cadeau and Dawson also won their respective singles matches in straight sets. Westbrook fell in game one, but battled back to win three sets (2-6, 6-4, 7-6).
After dropping a nail-biting set one, 7-5, D.C. native sophomore
Daniel Dunac rebounded with victories in sets two and three (6-2, 6-1).
HU travels to Cary, N.C., for the annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Round Up (March 16-18), hosted by North Carolina Central.
