CHICAGO (February 10, 2023) – Howard University men's and women's track & field program opened Day One of the Windy City Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, with a pair of victories in the short hurdles.
Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week senior
Jermanie Byrd (Miami) and junior
Darci Khan (Stockbridge, Ga.) set the tone for HU.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Khan edged out the Badgers' Destiny Huven by one-thousandths of a second (8.15) while setting a new facility benchmark.
For the men, Byrd, junior
Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) and senior
Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ky.) swept the 60-meter hurdles, earning first (7.84), second (7.87) and third (7.99), respectively.
Other notable performance on the track included All-American senior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) taking second place in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 53.63.
In the field, second-year Bison
Jasmyn Hunter (Flossmoor, Ill.) returned to the Midwest where she finished seventh overall in the long jump (5.75 meters; 18'10.5").
Graduate thrower
Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) tossed over 62 feet (19.12 meters) in the women's weight throw, placing eighth overall.
On the men's side, senior
Nnamdi Olebara (Bowie, Md.) claimed 15
th place after tossing over 52-feet (16.10 meters) in the weight throw.
