WASHINGTON (February 10, 2023) – Howard University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season, edging out crosstown rival UDC (University of District of Columbia), 4-3, at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus in Southeast D.C.
Win the victory, HU improved 1-2 overall while UDC dropped to 1-3 on the season.
Howard grabbed the upper hand after taking two-out-of-three in doubles play.
Junior
Justin Cadeau (West Orange, N.J.) and reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week
Marcel Dawson (Columbus, Ga.) served as the club's No. 1 doubles team, knocking off UDC's Louis Mangeon and Mauricio Corty, 6-4.
Third-year Bison
Gabe Knowles (Allentown, Pa.) and D.C. native sophomore
Daniel Dunac also earned a doubles win on the afternoon, 6-4.
In singles competition, Dawson and juniors
Hassimiyou Dieng (Dakar, Senegal) and
Pierce Westbrook (New Orleans) won their respective matchups in straight sets.
On Feb. 12, both squads travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to face Lehigh. The action begins 10 a.m. for the men, followed by a 2 p.m. start time for the women.
