Women’s Swimming & Diving Finishes Runner Up at the H2ounds Invite

Bison impressive in Baltimore

BALTIMORE (December 2, 2023) – Howard University women's swimming & diving team finished runner up at the annual H2ounds Invitational, hosted by the Loyola (Md.) Greyhounds in Baltimore.
 
During the two-day event, HU racked up 848 points.
 
Newcomer Chanice Posada (Houston) highlighted the weekend with a victory in the 100 Back, recording a 55.31 time and scoring 20 points for the Bison. The Houston native also competed in the 200 Back where she placed third overall (2:05.25), collecting 16 points.
 
Posada, seniors Michaela Spears (Chicago) and Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.) and second-year Bison Samyra Benoit (Santa Clarita, Calif.) produced a 1:44.81 mark in the 200 Medley Relay, earning silver and tallying 34 points.
 
Individually, Spears competed in the 200 IM (2:06.46) and 200 Breast (2:26.58), placing third in both races, respectively.
 
Benoit, Posada, Spears and junior Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) represented HU in the 400 Medley Relay, notching a third-place finish (3:50.20) and recording 32 points.
 
Thompson also took part in the 100 Breast (1:04.31) and 200 Breast (2:22.41), securing silver in both events, respectively.
 
Spears, Thompson and sophomores Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Ariz.) and Kali Garcia (Altamonte, Fla.) placed third in the 800 Free Relay (7:53.01), scoring 32 points for the Bison.
 
Debnam finished third in the 1650 Free (18:02.48) while racking up 16 points.
 
Fountain, Spears and rookies Summer McKoy (Pikesville, Md.) and Myeisha Sharrieff (Bermuda) took silver in the 200 Free Relay race, clocking in at 1:36.21 (34 points).
 
Other noteworthy performance included senior Alana Josey (York, Pa.) earning second place in the 400 IM (4:41.40), securing 17 points for HU.
 
On the board, junior Jordynn Connell (Flower Mound, Texas) had a pair of fourth place finishes in the 1-meter dive (186.65) and 3-meter dive (188.00), combining for 30 points.
 
Loyola won its home event, tallying 1,317 points.
 
On Dec. 17, HU closes out the 2023 portion at the CSCAA Open Water Championships in Miami.
