Bison Trio Lead Men’s Basketball to Victory

HU rallies to down Boston

WASHINGTON (November 14, 2023) – Junior Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the second half while graduates Seth Towns (Columbus, Ohio) and Jelani Williams (Washington) made their season debuts and came off the bench to score 17 between them as the Howard University men's basketball got past Boston University (0-3) in a nonconference game at Burr Gymnasium.

Coming into the game, the team was averaging 88 points per game while shooting almost 50 percent from the field as a team. But this was one of those night as the Bison scored a season low and trailed, 24-23, at the half. A combination of poor shooting and a pesky defense forced the hosts into a season low 19 percent shooting from the floor.

After halftime, the 6-foot-4 junior guard got the Bison going. Howard (2-2) came out of the locker room with renewed energy, led by Harris, who scored eight straight points to put HU up, 48-43.

With the Terriers now concerned with Harris, it created opportunities for Towns and Williams.  Towns was seeing his first action in two years and once the talented transfer got going, he scored eight straight points, including back-to-back threes.

But the Terriers refused to go away and got scoring from Miles Brewster to help them stay closes.

Then, Williams began to make his presence felt, getting in the paint, giving his team second chance opportunities with rebounding and drawing fouls, sending him to the free throw line.

An 8-0 run over a three-minute stretch gave the Bison some breathing room and helped the secure the victory.

Towns and Williams each grabbed six rebounds while junior guard Marcus Dockery (Washington) made up for a cold shooting night by converting 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

The game featured 17 lead changes and six ties.

NEXT UP: The Bison travel to New Jersey to take on Rutgers Saturday (Nov. 18).
