DURHAM, N.C. (October 24, 2023) – Howard University men's soccer team saw its two-match win streak to come a halt, falling to No. 9 Duke, 7-0, Tuesday night.
HU played Duke tough throughout the first half, but a pair of goals within a 50-second span gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 advantage into intermission.
Moments after halftime, Ulfur Bjornsson extended the Blue Devils lead with another goal, 3-0.
Duke kept the pressure on from that point, tallying four more scores within a 16-minute duration.
Seniors
Nathan Leggett (Apex, N.C.) and
Peter Gansallo (Bowie, Md.) were the lone Bison to get shots on goal.
Defensively, senior goalie
Benjamin Hoesli (Bern, Switzerland) battled all night, registering nine saves in a losing effort.
Thursday (Oct. 26), HU returns to The Mecca to face Sacred Heart in a crucial Northeast Conference showdown. Kickoff is slated for noon at Greene Stadium.
