WASHINGTON (October 18, 2023) – Howard University men's soccer team secured its first win of the season, scoring a pair of late goals in the victory over VMI, 2-1, at Greene Stadium.
HU controlled majority of the tempo, outshooting the Keydets, 14-10.
VMI (4-11) grabbed the upper hand early with a goal from Rider Holcomb, assisted by Woongchan Oh, 1-0.
Despite the halftime deficit, HU refused to go away.
At the 69-minute, sophomore
Roman Stallings (Tyrone, Ga.) tied the contest, thanks to an assist by senior
Nathan Leggett (Apex, N.C.), 1-1.
Two minutes later (71'), Leggett was foul inside the box where he capitalized on the penalty kick, 2-1.

Benjamin Hoesli (Bern, Switzerland) racked up seven saves in the victory.
Sunday (Oct. 22), HU resume league play with Le Moyne College on Alumni Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
During the contest, the men's soccer program will pay tribute to former All-American and fallen Bison Bancroft Gordon.
