LIU Defeats Men’s Soccer with Second Half Surge

Bison score first, but Sharks respond with three goals of their own

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (October 15, 2023) – Howard University men's soccer team scored first, but the LIU Sharks responded with three unanswered goals to down HU, 3-1.
 
All-NEC selection Bryson Baker (Ellicott City, Md.) tallied his third of the season (12'), thanks to an assist from team captain senior Roy Henderson (Fredericksburg, Va.), 1-0.
 
Nearly 11 minutes later, LIU (5-4-3, 2-0-2 NEC) got on the board after a goal by Emil Jaaskelainen, 1-1.
 
Entering the half, both squads were deadlocked at one piece with the Bison taking an advantage in corner kicks, 3-1.
 
Moments after intermission, LIU's Joshua Saavedra gave the Sharks their first lead of the contest at the 48-minute mark, 2-1.
 
After assisting on the first two goals, Ben Assane Fall scored an insurance goal (61') to put the match out of reach, 3-1.
 
Senior goalie Benjamin Hoesli (Bern, Switzerland) had a pair of saves in the loss.
 
HU (0-9-1, 0-4 NEC) begins a brief two-match home stand Wednesday (Oct. 18), taking on VMI at 7 p.m., inside Greene Stadium.
