EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 14, 2023) – Howard University women's swimming & diving team picked up its first win of the season, topping Mount St. Mary's, 156-62, at Emmitsburg, Md.
Junior
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) led the way with a pair of victories in the 100-meter Free (58.26) and 200-meter Free (2:09.91).
In the 400-meter Free Relay, junior
Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.), sophomore
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) and rookies
Chanice Posada (Houston) and
Jasmine Morgan (Chicago) took home gold with a 4:01.69 time.
Nwaeze, Roberson and Posada also won individually in the 800-meter Free (9:46.00), 50-meter Free (27.32) and 100-meter Fly (1:06.21), respectively.
Seniors
Alana Josey (York, Pa.) and
Michaela Spears (Chicago) earning first place in the 400-meter IM (5:11.10) and 100-meter Back (1:15.25), respectively.
Other noteworthy performances included sophomore
Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Ariz.) winning the 400-meter Free (4:39.79) and newcomer
Summer McKoy (Pikesville, Md.) claiming gold in the 100-meter Back (1:06.48).
On the board, third-year Bison
Jordynn Connell (Flower Mound, Texas) placed first in the 1-meter dive with a 190.30 score.
On Oct. 27, Howard returns home to face American. Meet time is set for 6 p.m., inside Burr Gym Pool.
