WASHINGTON (October 1, 2023) – Howard University women's soccer (8-3-2, 3-1-1 NEC) notched their second stalemate of the season Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against Stonehill College (0-11-2, 0-4-1 NEC).
The Bison were tenacious, putting up 13 shots throughout the first half with four on goal (SOG).
Determined to get the upper hand, the Bison's persistence paid off in the 52nd minute.
Notching her first assist of the season, sophomore midfielder Mia Young (Plantation, Fla.) chipped the ball in line with the keeper.
The sudden appearance of the ball was too much for the Skyhawk goalie as she deflected it into freshman Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.), who took a shot for a 1-0 lead.
The scoring bug rubbed off as the Skyhawks connected with the net seven minutes later.
Hungry for the golden goal, HU put keeper Mia Jackson to work, recording four more SOG before the buzzer compared to Stonehill's three.
Howard outshot the Skyhawks 25(10)-8(6) while taking advantage of nine corners as opposed to Stonehill's two.
Atlanta native Trinity Knox grabbed five saves in the deadlock.
Support the Bison next week as they return to road play October 8 at noon when they take on Sacred Heart in Connecticut.
