ELON, N.C. (August 21, 2022) – Howard University women's soccer team erased a 3-0 deficit, thanks to three second half goals, to earn a draw at Elon.
After being outshot in the first half, 9-2, HU was more aggressive in the second period with 11 attempts.
Sophomore forward
Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calif.) led the Bison charge, scoring five points (two goals and one assist) in the draw.
Elon (1-0-1) got on the board first with an own goal by Howard, 1-0.
At the 31-minute mark, Isa Murdock extended the margin with an unassisted goal and gave Phoenix a 2-0 halftime lead.
In the second period, Elon's Abby Fusca gave Phoenix a commanding 3-0 advantage at the 62-minute mark.
Moments later, Earley scored the Bison's first goal of the new season and trimmed the deficit, 3-1.
Second-year midfielder
Zoe Moore (Tampa, Fla.) pulled the Bison within one, thanks to assists from Earley and fellow midfielder
Marli Berry (Orangevale, Calif.), 3-2.
With less than 15 minutes remaining, Earley recorded her third career multi-goal performance with another unassisted goal to erase the 3-0 deficit and secure a tie for the Bison.
Junior
Nyla Allen (Elmont, N.Y.) took a team-high four shots in the tie while fellow classmate
Kennedy Jones (Flossmoor, Ill.) filled in for goalkeeper
Alayah Hightower (Mitchellville, Md.), producing seven saves.
